The Aztec civilization worshiped hundreds and hundreds of Gods and Godess. a lot of them were to do with agricultal side of things , dew to the Aztecs relied heavily on farming in day to day life.

They believed that the destiny there humanity relied on there Gods, and most of the Aztec people were terrified. They were afraid that if they did not listen to what the Gods told them the would be punished severely. Not all of the Aztec Gods come from the one place. They were many different regions (cultures) that made up the Aztec empire, with a lot of them adopting from other regions. But they believed that "The Toltels" were the origin of the Aztec empire, adopting a lot of there beliefs from them.

 

One of the most famous Aztec God was Quetzalcoatl. He was said to of created humans. All though he was not the first to create humans. Humans were created 4 times and destroyed before Quetzalcoatl dew to in fighting. Quetzalcoatl was given human bones from the underworld and he added his blood and created humans again. It was also believed that Quetzalcoatl introduced the cocoa bean to the Aztec people. They believed that he returned. The Aztecs thought that the Spanish leader Cortes was him, until the war started between the Aztecs and the Spanish, which was the start of the Aztec empires demise.

 

Huitzilopochtli (Humming bird of the south left) 'The Warrior Sun God’s another famous Gods the Aztec people followed. He required a lot of blood sacrifices. Sacrifices included Human, Animal, Most important was sacrifing there own warriors and enermie warriors. They believed that if they scarified the warriors that they would fight beside Huitzilopochtli in the after life.

 

Other most important gods the Aztecs followed was Ometechtli and his female partner. They wer the Gods of Nature and believed to be father and mother of many other Gods. The were mostly shown as half man half woman.


Another God they followed was The Flayed One (Xipe Tofel) he was the God of the seasons. The Aztecs did a lot of sacrifing to him. They believed that he flayed (skinned) himself to give humanity food, so they did a lot of sacrifing and skinning there victims. A festival was created for him in spring, where the priests would wear the scins of there sacrifices for 20 days they believed it would give them magical powers.

Most of the Gods the Aztec people followed had some sort of blood sacrifice and if they did not sacrificed they would be punished severely.
